Leveling up my snack game with glittery bow buns. # 385: Cinnamon Sugar Bows

How cute are these bow tie buns? They’re bringing some much-needed joy on a super gloomy rain day.

I’m shocked at how well they held their shape after baking! I set my expectations very low, imagining them poofing up and unraveling in the oven, but they proved me wrong in the best way.

While some got an edible glitter / cinnamon sugar topping, others got some of the leftover icing from last week’s marbled cookies. They’re giving (messy / artsy?) glazed doughnut.

Thida Bevington’s simple enriched sweet dough recipe coming out to play again! It’s simpler than a brioche or challah: you get to melt the butter and add it at the beginning instead of slowly kneading it in. Plus, it only needs a single 1.5 – 2 hour proofing nap before it can be baked and devoured.

I include the recipe details in my Afternoon Tea Bun post! If these bows were a little smaller, they’d be a perfect add for a tea time pastry tower. Especially with their glittery topping! Taking notes for my next tea party.

Baking math is the only math I do nowadays.

Reminder to self: eye-balling the amounts is surprisingly inaccurate. I only got one on the nose with the right weight!

Bun rolling therapy.

So plush, much squish.

Getting snowflake vibes.

Ok here’s the magic trick: lift the middle of the three triangles on each side and tuck the outer two underneath it.

Tuck the last awkward piece of dough around the center and voila!

Obsessed.

Ready to dazzle.

I ate one warm and it was the best decision of my day.

Brb, adding “can tie a dough bow tie” to my life resume.

Happy munching!
